April 15th: Among Ashes Getting Demo
I find Among Ashes intriguing. I've played first-person horror games that are somewhat narrow in scope and in which you play a meta-game within which horrific things begin to happen outside of the game. However, it seems that this one goes further since there is a lot more to do in the "real world" section. We now know that the first thirty minutes of the game will be available for us to play in the Among Ashes demo, which the makers plan to release on April 15. I will undoubtedly attend.
So what is the purpose of Among Ashes exactly? It is a "metafictional horror title about a haunted video game and the disturbing story behind its creation," according to its description. Your buddy gives you a link to an odd horror game called Night Call on a rainy early 2000s night. Additionally, strange things begin to happen in your flat as you go through it. It seems that the only way to solve the problem is to never give up on Night Call. With the possible exception that you will sometimes need to pause the game in order to resolve an issue that arises.
That's the impression I get from the trailer, which you can see here, at least. In essence, you have a whole first-person horror game enclosed in a second first-person horror framing mechanism. I get the impression that you'll have to endure Night Call's horrors while attempting to avoid dying from the hauntings in the "real world." Not to mention that everything takes place in the early 2000s, which is the ultimate eldritch horror at the center of it all.
Having said that, I'm excited for the April 15, 2024, premiere of the Among Ashes demo. You should have enough time to go through much of the game's first thirty minutes, which includes the "atmospheric & labyrinthhian halls of Stoker Manor," which is the setting for Night Call. Naturally, everything that begins to overflow into your virtual residence is also included. Remember that you may wishlist Among Ashes on Steam if you decide to play along with me and you like what you see.
