In May 2024, PUBG will bring back the Erangel Classic Map.
It's hard to believe that seven years have passed since PUBG stormed onto the scene and fundamentally altered the gaming landscape, both by itself and by influencing games like Fortnite. It goes without saying that the game changed over time. It is presently at a completely different position in both minor and major aspects. It's time to revisit the past if you're missing the old PUBG. Get ready.
PUBG Will Again Feature Erangel Classic
Yes, in May, the original Erangel will triumphantly return to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. In particular, for PC, from May 14 to May 28 and on consoles, from May 23 to June 6. It will take the place of the present Normal Match Erangel version. But no, it's not simply the map arrangement that will go back to the past. To make the experience as realistic as possible, the developers will rework a few things. The list of modifications is as follows, according the official announcement:
- Foggy and rainy weather on the classic map
- Bench weapons will be back on the starting island; grab your favorite gun before everyone else does
- Vintage world map & minimap, the match start timer, font and graphics
- Reduced recoil to emulate the feel of the gunplay from back in the day
- Search for the Tommy Gun in the Care Package, just like you used to
- Knocking down enemies will require more time
- Clothes and helmets will appear on the ground
On May 13th, there will be more thorough patch notes, so be on the lookout for them. However, I'm quite sure you get the overall tone they're aiming for. According to the article, "Erangel Classic delivers the fun gameplay experiences that players have grown accustomed to, all while preserving the essence of the earlier version of Erangel, its distinctive appearance and atmosphere." It promises to be a violent, chaotic stroll down memory lane.
