On May 14, The Rogue Prince of Persia will be on sale.
I never gave it much attention, but after seeing the video, I can see how brilliant it would be to create a roguelite version of Prince of Persia. But what would be required for it to function? You'll need, among other things, a distinctive artistic style and maybe some excellent music. But the gameplay is what matters most; it must be thrilling, fast-paced, and very responsive. Hey, Evil Empire, hello!
If you're unfamiliar with Evil Empire, they collaborated with Motion Twin on many Dead Cells DLCs. Of course, it implies that they had a very solid foundation to work with from the start. But I'm sure they've also learned a ton of really useful skills from working on one of the greatest 2-D roguelite action platformers ever, if not the greatest. They are the studio that Ubisoft ought to have hired to create The Rogue Prince of Persia.
What's the purpose of this game now? As you can see from the clip below, it's a chic 2-D action platformer with roguelite elements, much like Dead Cells. Sure, there isn't any action for the first three quarters, but after that, there is real game video. And it looks amazing, I must say. It's true that not much is shown in the video, but what there is enough to thrill me. It seems to be Hades-inspired artwork on Dead Cells. I still sometimes play those two games since I like them so much. So, I should really like this Prince of Persia.
On May 14, 2024, The Rogue Prince of Persia will be available on Steam Early Access. I usually steer clear of early access games since I want to play finished games. Just a question of preference. For this one, however, I may simply break the routine. It just seems too alluring.
