Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, which includes many gameplay reworks, is scheduled for release in September.

The first and (so far) only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 has an official release date, which was revealed by CD Projekt RED at this year's Xbox Games Showcase. The expansion, dubbed Phantom Liberty, is scheduled for release on September 26, 2023. The objective of Phantom Liberty is to rescue the President of the New United States of America when her orbital shuttle is shot down above Dogtown, the worst neighborhood in Night City. Players assume the role of V, a cyberpunk for hire, once again. the official news release is read. "What follows is a deep dive into a complex story of political intrigue and espionage that links the world's most powerful elites with the violent realm of black-market mercenaries."

But Night City's newest neighborhood and a whole new narrative are just a part of the expansion. In particular, Phantom Liberty is expected to radically modify a large number of Cyberpunk 2077's gameplay features. Since the game's debut, one of the primary criticisms leveled toward Cyberpunk has been that it fell short of expectations. But the creators say that's going to change shortly. Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty enhances almost every gameplay mechanism in the original game in addition to adding a ton of new ones. Creative director Pawel Sasko has listed a number of significant enhancements that Phantom Liberty will bring to Cyberpunk 2077.

Features and Reworks of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Gameplay

  • A complete rework of the police system. There will be NCPD/Mercs chasing based on your “wanted” level (5 levels max).
  • The perks and skills system has been thoroughly overhauled. Now very few of them will give simple passive bonuses and stats. Instead, they will provide interesting active abilities and meaningful changes. Some examples are dash, different melee finishers, and bullet-deflecting with melee weapons.
  • The 6th skill tree was added. It uses Relic Points as a resource, and players will use it to add new abilities to Cyberware.
  • The difficulty curve has been rebalanced and reworked for a better pace of the game.
  • New enemy types and archetypes were added, and many existing ones have been reworked to introduce more variety in combat.
  • Several changes to how Cyberware works, including a negative effect if you have too much of it.
  • The highly-requested vehicle combat improvements are now added to Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. For example, you can use your Katana while driving a bike. In addition, some vehicles now have weapons installed on them, like machine guns and rocket launchers.
  • Speaking of vehicles, you will now be able to hack cars. Additionally, you no longer buy cars from fixers. Rather, they are now purchasable via Wakako Okada’s website.
